OUR STUDENTS SAID …

They say that mastering another a language takes a lifetime, but with Delphine this feat seems much more attainable. Delphine was patient and encouraging but always pushed me to take my skills to the next level. After each session she highlighted my strengths and emphasized my weak points. Over the 2 months Delphine and I worked together, my progress improved exponentially. Investing in My French Coach was one of the best decisions I made over the course of my magnificent year in Paris. Highly recommended for those looking to elevate their French!

WHY SPOKEN FRENCH?

Your French tutor from Paris focuses on spoken French, lessons online are adapted to needs and goals of each profiles.

We specialize in spoken French (starting from the beginner level), because we have found that there are a number of students who, after studying French for a long time, feel frustrated that they aren’t able to express themselves easily. Language is, above all, a vehicle of self-expression, exchange and sharing.

Learning a language takes time and practice. But, we imagine that we can learn quickly thanks to our motivation, like Whitney:

“I was excited because I knew that even though it would be hard, I would most likely be speaking French at the end of three years. I didn’t quite realize how hard that journey was going to be…”

And many people hope to attain an excellent level very quickly, like Tanisha:

“I wanted to be fluent in two weeks. I had completely unrealistic expectations!”

It is difficult, but you have to be patient, vary your methods of learning, and enjoy the process. And know that taking a course with My French Coach is just one step in learning French.

Speaking your new language - it’s the most difficult skill of all. Lindsey mentioned it in our interview with her:

“With speaking you have to think fast on your feet - it’s much harder. When you’re writing a composed email or a letter, you have time to think about it”.

Our students:

After teaching French to countless students over the years, one thing is true: each student is different with their own way of learning. But they all have one thing in common: they have intentionally decided to take a French course, to improve speaking skills. Motivation will drive your progress.

HOW WE UNDERSTAND OUR STUDENTS

When it comes to learning a foreign language, the starting point depends on personal language experience:

  • Age

  • Number of foreign languages already learned

  • Native language

  • Experience with the French language (have you already lived in a Francophone country? Did you learn the language years ago at school?)

  • Your entourage (Do you work with colleagues who speak French? Your family? Your friends? Are you used to hearing this language, or interacting in it, even just a few words?)

But also a few psychological aspects:

  • Confidence in yourself

  • Shyness (Lindsey “I was really shy trying to practice; I’d get self-conscious when I’d speak French. I was really intimidated by the language.”)

  • Certain people will naturally communicate more freely and are less rigorous on the phonetic and grammatical structure

  • Others block themselves (against their own wishes). They won’t allow themselves to make mistakes, afraid of feeling shame or judgement (even if it only comes from within).

In addition, we’ll need to understand your goals, their underlying motivation and, of course, compare it your current level.

  • To speak and share with your friends or your family?

  • To participate in conversations with your colleagues?

  • To communicate with merchants in the street?
